Korean-style fighter jets.
The first Korean-made Boramae fighter, Boramae Sijae
No. 1, has been unveiled in 20 years since
the announcement of the development of a Korean-style fighter jet.
In the defense industry,
it is still necessary to review the project,
including the ongoing sharing negotiations
with Indonesia, a co-development country.
On the 9th, a launching ceremony
for the Korean fighter KF-21 Boramae Tensee 1 was
held at the Sacheon plant in Korea Aerospace.
Major officials from the government and the military,
Indonesian Defense Minister and defense industry officials attended.
On the 9th, a performance of the Korean fighter jet Boramae (KF-21) is
being held in Jeongik-dong,
Sacheon, South Gyeongsang Province.

◇ The world’s eighth advanced supersonic fighter…
Samsung Electronics is going to invest $20 trillion into
development and mass-production.
The Boramae,
which was unveiled on the same day,
is the world’s eighth-largest advanced
supersonic fighter jet with 4.5 generations or more.
The KF-X project is called the largest weapons
development project since Dangun,
and 8.6 trillion won will be spent on fighter development alone
and 10 trillion won on production of 120 units.
This project is meaningful in that we will research
and develop domestic fighter jets that replace
the Air Force’s aging fighter F-4, F-5.
The Air Force has designated the KF-21 Boramae,
which is commonly used as a symbol of the Air Force,
as the trade name for Korean fighter jets
that will protect the Korean Peninsula in the 21st century.
The name, set by the Air Force through a public offering,
means that it is a Korean-style fighter jet that
is vigorously flying for future self-defense.
The release of the prototype is said to be
a meaningful achievement in the development
process in that it enters the stage of physicalizing
and evaluating the performance of fighter jets that have existed
only as drawings. In the future,
major avionics equipment with high difficulty
in development,
such as Electronic Active Phase Array Radar
(AESA) and integrated electronic warfare system,
will be localized and equipped. Ministry of National Defense’s goal is
to increase the rate of localization of parts
for mass-production unit 1 to 65% or more.
The prototype, which was released
on the same day, plans to conduct its
first flight in 2022 after a ground test
and other processes,
and then conduct a test evaluation by 2026 to
complete the system development.
The production inducement effect of the project is expected
to be about 24.4 trillion won,
the value-added inducement effect is expected
to be about 5.9 trillion won,
the technological ripple effect is about 49.5 trillion won,
and the employment inducement effect is expected to be about 110,000.
◇ First pilot to be selected as Captain Yang Yoon-young
The release ceremony was organized under the theme of announcing
the resurrection of the Korean aviation industry leaders,
who have been challenging the sky since the past,
through KF-21 Boramae.

The Ministry of National Defense’s Traditional Chuta University
and the traditional pole played songs used to
enhance the royal authority and boost the morale of soldiers during
the Joseon Dynasty. In addition, the four flags (blue dragon,
white tiger, masterpiece, and basalt) were placed
on the four sides of the venue to give meaning
to protect the country.
Singer Ha Hyun-woo then sang
his song “Stone Ball.” An official of the Ministry of National Defense explained,
“It means that the will, belief,
and marriage of the developers who succeeded
in developing the first domestic fighter jet after overcoming
concerns such as budget waste and business
failure resemble the lyrics of ‘stoneball’ to stand up again
and be strong even if they fall and get hurt.”
Along with the declaration of the name,
the prototype appeared
as a performance of media facade techniques
that utilize light on the fuselage. Captain Yang Yoon-young of the F-16
combat battalion who participated in the red flag training was
the first female pilot to board the prototype.
